Abuja (Sundiata Post) – A group under the aegis of Arewa Christians (ACIPA), has called on President Bola Tinubu to have some degree of compassion on the citizens, even as the fuel subsidy removal bites harder.
The group understands that the removal is justifiable but urges the President to employ more human friendly policies to cushion the effect on the masses.
The Christian body also called on Governors in their various States to also use funds accrued to them to better the lots of the people.
Speaking in a statement that contained it’s Christmas message, the ACIPA Chairman, Rev. Dr. Luke Shehu, also appeal to Tinubu to intensify the fight against insurgency so that the Military will win the war and return to the barracks.
Shehu also tasked the President to put more pressure on the war against corruption, reminding him that his cabinet and other corrupt politicians will destroy his good works if the long decade of corruption persists.
According to him: “As we celebrate Christmas and mark the New year with an audacious faith working to make Nigeria greater, we call on Mr. President, Bola Tinubu and our Governors to be more compassionate and humane in their policies, decisions and utterance.
“AICPA is aware that the removal of subsidy was a necessity that was long overdue in view of the corruption surrounding the oil industry in Nigeria.
“However, Nigerians have not experienced the hardships associated with petroleum scarcity.
We therefore commend the President and call on him to sustain the tempo while maintaining the momentum at the war against corruption and total annihilation of terrorists so that our soldiers can go back to their barracks.
“As we journey in the path to fulfillment of our destiny, we wish to draw the attention of Mr President and all Governors as captains of the ship to be aware of many Jonahs that may lead to the capsizing of the nation or state ship.
“If the Jonahs’ in our ship(s) can not recuse themselves or ask to be thrown out, then certainly the captains, crew and passengers need to throw the Jonah’s out.
“In the years ahead, we can not afford a backlog of liabilities who are often political cronies in governance as a result of personal allegiances or family ties. This is unacceptable especially where such cronies are counterproductive or a cog in the wheel of our nation and states.
“Leadership requires courage and audacious pragmatism.
Once more, AICPA wishes all Nigerians a secured, blessed Merry Christmas and a prosperous New year.
