Calabar – The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) in Cross River has donated food and other items to the Uwanse Orphanage home in Calabar.
Mrs Stella Nkereuwem-Akpan, Chairperson of the association in the state, said it was important to identify with the children and show them love in the season of Christmas.
The chairperson, who is also the Wife of the Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Nkereuwem Akpan, said the items were also donated to encourage the children to have a positive outlook toward life.
“We are here today to show love to the children by donating these items to them with a view to improving their nutritional value.
“Christmas signifies love and the birth of Christ, in that spirit, we are here to extend that love to these children that need it most.
“I want to encourage the children to always have a positive outlook toward life; they may have been abandoned by their parents but God has not abandoned them,” she said.
Responding, Mrs Felicia Oti, the Officer in charge of the home, thanked the association for the show of love and concern for the less privileged.
Oti expressed joy that the food items would go a long way in the feeding of the children within the Christmas season and beyond.
