Cotonou, – Voters in Benin Sunday streamed to polling stations to elect representatives to local, communal and municipal councils with 34 political parties competing for dominance.
In the capital, Cotonou, thousands of people were undeterred by an early morning downpour to carry out their civic obligation in an exercise that was originally planned to hold in 2013.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
The elections were then indefinitely postponed due to lack of a reliable and consensual electoral roll.
The Constitutional court fixed the voters’ register on 31 May 2015 but the polls remained pending up until the end of school examinations on Thursday. (PANA/NAN)
