Ijebu-Ode (Ogun) – Some communities in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun, on Friday appealed to the state government to urgently provide effective drainages to address flooding being experienced by residents in the areas.
The residents told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ijebu-Ode that whenever it rained, many of them were usually trapped in their homes due to flooding.
NAN reports that the affected areas are Igewon, Molipa, Igbeba, Jegun, Yidi Lane, Namako, Serico, Obalende, Owakurudu and Epe garage.
One of the resident of Serico Area in Ijebu Ode, Taiwo Adio, told NAN that “there is environmental disaster in our community.
“Apart from the road that is impassable, the level of flooding after the rains are beyond what we can handle.’’
Amope Akinwunmi, a resident of Molipa, said a most of their homes had been submerged and their roads devastated as a result of the floods.
“Government has not been able to construct good roads and drainages for our community. Molipa expressway is not properly maintained and that is the major access road the community uses,” Akinwunmi said.
She appealed to the state government to come to the rescue of the residents by providing a conducive environment bereft of the pandemic risks associated with flooding.

“We are calling on the state government not to neglect us; we are calling on all concerned bodies to come to our aid and help avert a major disaster.
“The floods are affecting our businesses. Even the school children, most times, cannot go to school when access to the community is blocked.
“It is an eyesore which continuously increases the cost of living for us in the community,” Oluranti said. (NAN)
