Abuja – Corp members in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Friday held a sensitisation road walk to lend their support to the present administration’s war against corruption in the country.
The road walk was organised by corp members in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Community Development Service (CDS) group of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rally started at the Abuja Zoological Garden, Area 1, and ended at the EFCC Office in Garki 2.
The corps members were seen distributing anti-corruption fliers and the EFCC Act 2004 to the public during the road walk.
According to Mr Emmanuel Itunu, the President of the group, the walk was part of their efforts to increase public sensitisation and awareness on the need to end corruption in the country.
He said it aimed to remove the defects created by corruption in Nigeria and limit the level of corruption among youths.
Itunu added that it was also to enlighten the public on the effects of corruption on their lives and the society at large and to declare their support to the EFCC and the Federal Government.
“Youths are the future of Nigeria and there is need for them to imbibe good habits and have integrity in order to participate in clean politics.’’
He noted that though politics was seen as a dirty game where politicians pull down each other, there was need for youths to support the anti -corruption crusade of the present administration.
He maintained that regular anti-corruption sensitisation and awareness campaign was critical to help youths build positive attitudes for the enthronement of better society.
Miss Esther Amadi, a corp member, noted that the present government had zero tolerance for corruption, adding that the EFCC Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Magu, had been dogged in fighting the menace.
“We as a subdivision of the EFCC have come to pledge our support. We have come to let them know that we support the fight and are solidly behind the commission.
“Youths have the responsibility to join this fight because it is from us that the war against corruption can be fought and won.
“We are here to say we are against corruption and we love the ongoing fight against corruption; we hope Mr President achieves the desired change he has started,” Amadi said.
Mrs Nwanyinma Okeanu, a staff of the Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit of the EFCC, expressed happiness that Nigerian youths were beginning to understand their role and function in the country.
Okeanu assured that the EFCC would make efforts to engage more youths in its projects and enlighten them on the importance of integrity in order to achieve a corrupt-free future for the country. (NAN)
