OMU-ARAN – Mr Olusola Babalola, the Area Commander, National Anti-Corruption Volunteer Corps in Kwara South District, has called for an effective synergy among security operatives to curtail bank robbery.
Babalola told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Omu-Aran, Kwara, that the synergy was necessary in view of the rampant bank robberies in the district.
The corps is an arm of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
He said that the joint effort would assist law enforcement agencies to achieve effective patrols and surveillance of the communities.
Babalola said the occasional conflict amongst security personnel in the country was worrisome.
He described the development as posing grave danger towards the unity and peaceful co-existence among the citizenry.
He restated that the district residents now travel to other towns in kwara for banking transactions due to the closure of the banks in the district.
Babalola said that the banks had planned to reopen in the interest of the resident but their workers were not willing for fear of being killed.
“So, in such a development, I think it is the responsibility of the law enforcement agencies to involve a kind of synergy to allay the fears of the workers.
“It is one thing for the deployment of adequate security personnel to the communities; it is another for an effective synergy for a smooth operation to achieve the desired results,” Babalola said.
He also said the organisation had established ICPC/NAVC clubs in some schools to instill transparency and honesty in students.
The commander said the organisation had also embarked on sensitisation campaign in churches, markets and unions to educate the people on the dangers inherent in corrupt practices. (NAN)
