YENAGOA (Sundiata Post) – A high court in Bayelsa State has dismissed a suit brought before it by a claimant to the traditional stool of Biseni Kingdom in Yenagoa Local Government Area.
The case was brought before Justice Amadise Michael Ekadi by HRM David Samuel Obuma and four others as plaintiffs against The Attorney General of Bayelsa State, Bayelsa State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Development and Chief Thompson Amule Siloko, as first set of respondents.
The second set of respondents is Mr. Peter Akile Nwaku, Mr. Christopher Ewhrudjakpo while the third set of respondents is Emmanuel Agunowei, Ebipama Safa and Joseph Amaoru.
The case in Suit No. YHC/222/2022 was filed at High Court 13 Yenagoa on October 12, 2022.
Obuma claimed that he was duly elected The Ibedaowei III/Paramount Ruler of Biseni Kingdom through an election held on June 4, 2022, but the election was cancelled by the Bayelsa State Government.
He prayed the court to declare him as the king and direct the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Development to recognise him as king of Biseni Kingdom.
But, delivering judgment on Thursday, March 28, 2024, Justice Ekadi held that the case of the claimants was caught up with the statute of limitations.
The court also held that Obuma failed to prove his case and all his reliefs, and therefore dismissed the entire case.
