Minna – A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a 23-year-old painter, Aminu Iliyasu, in prison for alleged armed robbery.
The accused, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery,
The prosecutor, Insp. Muazu Abdullahi, told the court that one Salisu Sani, a resident of Suleja, Minna, reported the matter at the police station on May 9.
Abdullahi said the accused armed with knives and cutlass, invaded the complainant’s house while the he was away, robbed his wife of N100, 000 and a Tecno cell phone valued at N45, 000.
He said the accused was later arrested and he confessed to have conspired with one other person, now at large, to commit the offences.
The offences contravened Sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Murtala Abdullahi, declined to take plea of the accused on the grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter.
Abdullahi directed the police to forward the case file to the State Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the matter until June 21, for further mention.
