OMU-ARAN – A housewife, Zainab Waheed, on Thursday agreed to return the N120,000 dowry demanded by her husband, Mohammed, as condition for the dissolution of their marriage.
The money was paid to Mohammed as dowry.
Zainab, who lives in Awoyinka Area of Otun, had on May 12 approached an Omu-Aran Area Court to seek the dissolution of the five-year-old marriage.
She told the court that she was no longer interested in the union which was yet to produce any child.
“I was forced to marry him against my will; I know quite well that my husband had spent much on me.
“I am ready to pay the N120,000 he demanded as condition for my divorce. I am no longer interested in the union,” she told the court.
Mohammed, who is the Sarkin Fulani of Isanlu Mokutu, pleaded with the court to assist him to reconcile with his wife.
He said he had spent so much on his wife and her family, assuring that he would continue to take good care of her.
The judge, Mr Abolade Banigbe, said the court did its best to convince the complainant to change her stand but to no avail.
He said the court had no option than to dissolve the union.
“I have tried my best to reconcile the couple but the plaintiff stood her ground.
“Since she agreed to return the dowry as demanded by her husband, the marriage had ceased to exist from now,” Banigbe said. (NAN)
