ABUJA – Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) said on Thursday it was developing a postal master plan to move the postal sector in the region forward.
Mr Isaias Barreto da Rosa, ECOWAS Commissioner for Telecoms and IT made this known on World Post Day in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“Our current main project regarding the postal sector in the region is the development of the Postal Master plan for the ECOWAS region which should be ready in the beginning of 2015.
“It is strategic for us as it will clearly define the way forward for the postal sector in our region. [eap_ad_2] “It will have a clear set of projects and initiatives regarding the development of the sector,’’ Barreto da Rosa said.
The Commissioner said that ECOWAS was also currently working closely on a West African Postal Conference (WAPC) which would put in place necessary set of regulatory measures at regional levels.

It was declared World Post Day by the UPU congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969 and since then countries around the world participate annually in the celebrations.
The theme for 2014 is “Posts claim their place in the changing communication landscape’’. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
