Lagos -A 28-year-old chef, Emmanuel Udoh, who allegedly stole his girlfriend’s N100,000, was on Monday in Lagos granted a N100,000 bail.
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, which gave the ruling, also asked Udoh to provide two sureties in like sum as part of the bail condition.
The Magistrate, Mrs Omolade Awope said the sureties must, in addition, show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The accused, who resides at No. 34, Ofada St, Mowe, Ogun, is facing a charge of stealing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 1 at No. 11 Olusoji St., College road, Ogba, Lagos.
He said the accused went to the complainant’s house (name withheld) and stole the money, while she was at work.
“The accused sometimes spend some nights in the complainant’s house because he claimed he had accommodation problem.
“After she had left for work, he collected the key from where it was usually kept and stole the money from her bag,’’ he said.
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders.
The magistrate adjourned the case to Oct. 10 for mention. (NAN)
