Ado-Ekiti – An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court on Tuesday dissolved the 5-year-old marriage between Mr Oluwole Fatubarin and his wife, Apeke, for lack of care for Fatubarin and the children.
The marriage was also dissolved on grounds of threat to life and false allegations by Apeke.
Fatubarin, 55, and resident of No. 10, Oke-Ireje, Ado-Ekiti, said that anytime they quarreled, his wife would run outside, cursing him and she will not allow it to be resolved between them.
He told the court that they were once invited to narrate their case at a community meeting, adding that he felt bad over the development.
The father of two said that she does not take care of him and the children, even the child she brought from outside to his house, she does not care for anybody.
“She does not prepare food for me and the children at the right time. At times l will be shaking because of lack of food to eat.
“I go to market to buy foodstuffs just to ensure that they feed well, but instead, she will portray me as a stingy man.
“There is no more love between us and I don’t want to commit crime in this relationship because government will not spare me,’’ he said.
He urged the court to award him the custody of the children, Mercy,5, and Blessing ,3, for proper care.
The respondent, Apeke, 42, a resident of No. 6 Oke-Ireje, Ado-Ekiti, denied all the allegations leveled against her.
She said it was when he decided not to eat her food that she stopped cooking for him.
She prayed the court to award her the custody of the children for proper care.
The President of the Court, Mr Joseph Ogunsemi, said that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and consequently dissolved the marriage.
Ogunsemi ruled that the custody of the children should be awarded to the wife, while the husband should be responsible for their education.
He also ordered that the husband should be paying the sum of N3, 000 each on the two children as their monthly feeding allowance, and to be allowed access to see the children. (NAN)
