Mr Deji Elumoye has been returned unopposed for second term as Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ). [eap_ad_1] In the election held in Lagos on Saturday, Mr Babatunde Jimoh emerged Vice Chairman, Mrs Bimbo Oyetunde Secretary, Mr Alfred Odifa, Assistant Secretary, and Mrs Kehinde Ajayi, Treasurer.
Others are: Mr Idowu Ogunleye, Internal Auditor and Mr Samuel Dada who polled 157 votes to defeat Mr Ayo Ilori, who had 125 votes, as the Financial Secretary.
In his acceptance, Elumoye said the union would focuse attention on training and retraining of members especially those admitted into universities.
According to him, the council will pay the tuition fees of such members for the duration of the programme.
He added that the union was partnering with the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) for a special Diploma programme for photojournalists to be fully paid for by the council.
Elumoye said the union’s 20-room Guest House project at Shomolu, Lagos, was 70 per cent completed.
“By January 2015, we would have completed it. The project will fetch the union enough revenue.
“The project is costing N74 million and the union did not take any loan for its execution’’, Elumoye said.
The new executive council members are to be in office for the next three years. (NAN)
