LAGOS – Christian Aiyegbeni, who took part in relays at the African Junior Athletics Championships in 1997, has advised athletes who will eventually represent Nigeria at competitions to always strive to give their best.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Aiyegbeni told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos that they should look beyond training grants and allowances.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“My advice is that they should give their very best, even beyond what they are seeing in the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“They should try and make names for themselves; they should just go all out there and ensure that they represent Nigeria well.
“They should look beyond training grants and allowances; of course, they need the training grants and allowances but they should try and have a personal goal and look beyond the crisis.
“They should put their country first and I know that God will help them because Nigeria is the pride of Africa; people always look out for Nigeria,’’ he said.
Aiyegbeni, however, urged them to be committed, saying that they could never be sure where a single competition might lead them to in the world.
“They never can tell where one competition will take them to, so they should always stay committed and focused,’’ he said.
Aiyegbeni noted that Nigeria was usually a threat to other countries, whether the athletes Nigeria showcased were good or not. [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″]
