ILORIN – A Veterinary doctor, Mr Aliyu Hussain, on Wednesday said that veterinary practice in Nigeria had made it easier to combat zoonotic diseases. [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Hussain, a member of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin. [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
He said that veterinary practice in the country had come of age going by efforts of the Veterinary Council in the recent time to combat zoonotic diseases.

According to him, “veterinary doctors are always the first health personnel to nip any outbreak of animal disease in the bud.
“During the recent outbreak of Ebola disease in Nigeria, the steps taken by the Veterinary Council of Nigeria were indispensable.
“Right now, the council has mobilised its members across the nation in an effort to prevent further outbreak of the disease,’’ he said. [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Hussain said several steps taken by veterinarians had helped government tremendously to prevent people from contracting the virus, adding that efforts were still ongoing to ensure healthy animals.
“We are not resting on our oars as we all know that the health of our animals is our wealth.
“We are taking preventive measures to let our people know the type of animals that are good for human consumption in order prevent the spread of diseases by animals. (NAN)
