Lagos- A psychiatrist, Dr Emmanuel Owoyemi, said on Monday in Lagos the spate of mental disorder among Nigerians required the declaration of state of emergency in the health sector.
Owoyemi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the action would go a long way towards reducing the disorder.
According to him, security challenges in some parts of the country have compounded the current trend in mental disorder.
“The same way we have state of emergency right now in some parts of Nigeria, the government of Nigeria needs to call for a state of emergency on the mental health of Nigerians.
“At that point it would have very strong attention because in different parts of the North people do not sleep again, everybody is afraid.
“So, there is serious trauma all over the country.
“So, putting enough political will into it and releasing quick intervention fund to take care of people who are already going through traumatic experiences of the after effect of this insurgency.’’
