JALINGO (SUNDIATA POST)- The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has appealed to royal fathers in Taraba to encourage the people on the importance of free healthcare services available for them.
Mrs Tinubu made the appeal in Jalingo on Thursday while briefing briefing members of the Traditional Rulers council in the state on the purpose of her two-day official visit.
She said that it is important for the people to be aware of the free healthcare services that the government has provided for them.
She spoke about the impact of Syphilis, Hepatitis B and HIV/AIDS on Nigerians mostly the women and the importance of accessibility to free test and treatment.
The first lady urged the traditional rulers to champion these important health causes, reaffirming her strong commitment to the nation’s development.
She also called for increased awareness of health issues, particularly the fight against female genital mutilation, and announced significant funding secured for tuberculosis treatment.
“I need your partnership. We came here to encourage our midwives and also to raise the awareness for HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B.
“We need your help to echo the message that tests and treatments are free. A nation that is not healthy, no matter how wealthy they are, they will be poor.
“Also for cervical cancer,I lost a friend to that but it is quite treatable and people should go for the test early,” she said.
According to Mrs Tinubu, there are other programmes that she planned to carry out through her NGO, Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) which includes orientation on recycling of plastic wastes.
“We also.havd Flow With Confidence initiative too and we’ll be giving 10,000 packs of disposable sanitary napkins to girls in each state.
“We are also putting things in place to teach our children on how to recycle plastic wastes with what we call the Environment Climate Change club from our children from primary to tertiary institutions,” She said.
Earlier, Dr Agbu Kefaa, the state Governor had welcomed the first lady to the state and praised her for all the positive impacts she is making in the country.
The Chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers in Taraba, HRH Abbaa Gidda Tafida, the Emir of Muri also appreciated the first lady and prayed for the success of the programme.
