Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, experienced a medical emergency just outside the Federal High Court in Abuja, leading to the postponement of his trial on Thursday.
Scheduled to appear in court that morning, Mamman slumped before the proceedings could commence, necessitating medical attention from the court’s personnel.
Upon being revived, Mamman was served with the charges against him and subsequently attended court, though visibly affected by the incident.
During the trial, Mamman explained to Justice James Omotosho that his collapse was due to a combination of factors, including fasting and the effects of medication, which caused his blood pressure to drop.
Despite this, Mamman expressed readiness to proceed with the arraignment.
The court, however, faced scheduling constraints, leading to a postponement of the arraignment to the end of September, despite initial requests for a delay until Monday for Mamman to fully recover.
The proceedings resumed later in the day after addressing procedural issues, including corrections to the arrest warrant presented by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Omotosho adjourned the proceedings until 1 pm for further clarification, ensuring Mamman’s condition was stable before proceeding with the trial.
