MAIDUGURI – The FRSC in Borno said it recorded 13 accidents in which one person died and 42 injured in the first quarter (Q1) of 2014. The Sector Commander of FRSC in the State, Mr Abbah Bazzah, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri that the figure showed sharp decline in rate of vehicular accidents. He attributed this to the fact that drivers no longer plied the roads frequently because of the fear of being attacked by armed robbers and/or terrorists. “The presence of security checkpoints everywhere on the roads has also resulted in drivers no longer driving beyond the speed limit’’, he added. The sector commander said the command had arrested 137 persons out of which 67 had been charged with various traffic offences. He added that the command had trained 50 drivers from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Borno chapter, on safe driving. (NAN)
