MAKURDI – The Benue State Government on Friday told displaced Kwande people currently camping in Makurdi to return to their communities and tend to their farms.
Mr Peter Torjune, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development and Cooperatives made the call in Makurdi.
Torjune spoke when the Chairman of PDP in Kwande Local Government Area, Mr Terkula Azua-Ikyur, led other party officials on a visit to the camps.
He said if they don’t go home now “in the present cropping season, there would be acute food shortage in the next harvesting period.’’
Torjune advised them to respect the peace initiative of Gov. Gabriel Suswam.
He also charged them not to contemplate launching a reprisal attack on the communities in Taraba, following speculations that Fulani herdsmen were harboured there.
Torjune, therefore, enjoined people to be very supportive of Suswam’s administration in order to continue to deliver democratic dividends. (NAN)
