BIRNIN KEBBI – The Gwandu Emirate Development Association (GEDA) Kebbi has earmarked N10 million to boost education in rural areas.
The Director General of the association, Alhaji Abubakar Ladan, said this after he had inspected some ongoing projects in Birnin-Kebbi, on Thursday. Ladan said the association had embarked on the construction of 16 classrooms, hostels, dining hall and staff quarters in primary and boarding secondary schools in Bulasa.
He said the association would ensure that the development of the education sector in the emirate conformed to efforts being made by the state government.
Ladan said the association would pay the tuition fees of students in tertiary institutions from the emirate, adding that any investment in education was profitable.
He said a new secretariat was being built and would have office spaces and a conference hall that would be generating income for the association.
The association, he added, had selected some scholars to compile a comprehensive history of the emirate from 1805 to date.
Ladan, however, appealed to the youths of the emirate and the state to embrace formal and vocational education so that they could become self-reliant.(NAN.
