Enugu- The Igbo Youth Movement (IYM), a socio-cultural group, has said that only political restructuring would save the country from its lingering divisive tendencies.
The founder of the group, Mr Elliot Ukoh, said in a statement in Enugu on Tuesday that President Goodluck Jonathan had taken the right step to achieve a proper political configuration for the country through the 2014 national conference resolutions.
Ukoh said that what was left was the full implementation of the resolutions reached at the confab and urged the government to show the political will for its actualisation.
He called on Nigerian to support the president’s re-election bid to ensure the actualisation of the conference outcome.

“Everybody knows that Nigeria cannot survive if radical political restructuring of the country is much delayed and the continuous delay in implementing the confab report could be dangerous,” he said.
The founder pointed out that restructuring the country into a true federal state would address certain issues that tend to divide it, including insurgency in parts of the country.
He regretted that the high stakes in the country’s polity had led to the seeming fierce and vicious struggle for central power, saying this is the bane of the country.
“If Nigeria does not survive as an entity, those who run for political offices and win elections will have no country to govern,” he added.
Ukoh added that the group had endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the Feb. 14 presidential election to enable him to implement the conference report.
“We call on Nigerians to endorse the president for another term in office to continue the good work of laying the solid foundation for Nigeria to address the issues of insurgency in the country,” he said. (NAN)
