The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Commissioner of Police (CP) Abayomi Shogunle to lead the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Elections Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad.
Additionally, CSP Chima Ogarashi has been appointed as the new Force Marine Officer (FMO). The appointments were announced on Friday in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
According to the statement, these appointments are part of the IGP’s strategy to strengthen internal security and ensure a quicker response to violent crimes.
Ogarashi’s appointment is expected to enhance security operations and crime prevention along the country’s inland waterways.
“The new SIS head, CP Shogunle, is a highly experienced officer with expertise in operations, public relations, and various other capacities. He will lead the SIS in tackling security challenges while also overseeing Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad,” the statement said.
It further highlighted that CSP Ogarashi, as the new FMO, will manage a crucial section of the police force, leveraging his expertise in maritime security and law enforcement.
These appointments come as the Nigeria Police Force prepares to deploy 25 newly acquired gunboats and is working to secure additional maritime safety equipment. This move is part of efforts to improve security operations on the country’s waterways and boost public confidence in maritime safety.
The IGP assured the public of the police force’s commitment to tackling security threats and maintaining a safe environment for all citizens.
