Abuja – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has congratulated the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the successful conduct of its election at the recent 5th National Triennial Delegates Conference in Abuja.
A congratulatory letter in the commission’s daily bulletin issued on Tuesday in Abuja quoted the acting Chairman of INEC, Mrs Amina Zakari, as saying the election which produced Abdulwaheed Odusile as president was “transparent and devoid of rancour.’’
Zakari commended the immense contribution of the NUJ in articulating the Nigerian Media Code of Elections Coverage which was adopted on Oct. 30, 2014 in Lagos.

She said that the commission had enjoyed cordial working relationship with the NUJ and its members, some of who form the press corps which covers the activities of INEC.
“The commission wishes the new executive Godspeed and looks forward to working with it to enhance the electoral process and to continue to deliver transparent elections to Nigerians,” Zakari said.
She expressed optimism that the exposure and wealth of professional experience of the new executive would ennoble the union.
“We trust this will also inspire it to add value to the noble journalism profession and other stakeholders with which the union interfaces,’’ she added. (NAN)
