The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended eight universities across Nigeria from admitting new students into their law degree programmes.
JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, announced the decision on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, stating that it was based on the Council of Legal Education’s suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programme in the affected institutions for the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a statement, Benjamin said, “As a result, JAMB will not approve any admissions for candidates seeking to enroll in the Law programme at the aforementioned universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.”
Affected Universities:
- Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State
- Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State
- Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State
- Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State
- Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State
- Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State
- Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State
- Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State
Benjamin also clarified that the Nigerian Police Academy would not admit students for its law programme for two academic sessions, covering 2025/2026 and 2026/2027.
“Furthermore, the ban on registration for the Law programme at the Nigerian Police Academy will extend into the 2026/2027 academic session,” he added.
