The Nigeria government on Friday stated that Kano-Lagos and Port-Harcourt to Aba rail services would start by December 2023.
The revelation was made by the Managing Director of Nigeria Railway Corporation, Fidel Okhiria on Friday during an interview with Sunrise Daily on Channels Television. Noting that the contractors have giving us assurance that passengers and cargo transport will begin on the Kano-Lagos and Port-Harcourt-Aba rail tracks.
Okhiria explained that the government is working to guarantee security in the rail service sector in Nigeria.
“Within the next three months, we will be able to commence operations in Kano-Lagos and Port-Harcourt to Aba. So we can move from the port,” he said.
The sector had generated N768.4 million in the first quarter of 2023 (Q1’23) from N1.15 billion in Q4’22, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS.
