JALINGO – The Tiv Elders Forum in Taraba, on Tuesday described Mr David Kente, the Social [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]Democratic Party (SDP) Governorship candidate in the state as a messiah, whose election will rescue them from political discrimination.
Mr Atem Ansho, spokesman for the forum, made this known in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jalingo.
The statement said it was time for the Tiv people to take their destiny into their hands, in view of what it called continued marginalisation by successive administrations in the state.
It contended that since the return of democracy in 1999, their members were not given “sufficient political appointments” at the state or federal level.
“The most unfortunate of all the injustices meted against us was the removal of our member, who was appointed as the VC of Wukari University, under the pretext that he was not an indigene,” the statement said.
It vowed that the Tiv people would vote for Kente “because he had offered scholarship to 1, 500 youths across the state, even though he was not in government.”
The group therefore called on all its members to come out en-masse and vote for the SDP candidate in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, “so as to have their fair share in the system.” (NAN)
