LAGOS – A renowned sports administrator, Elias Gora, said on Tuesday that the country’s participation at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Scotland could be marred by lack of funds.
He said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Gora, who was Team Nigeria’s Chef de Mission at the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games, said that prompt release of funds was strategic to the nation’s success at the Glasgow Games. [eap_ad_1] “There is very little or no preparations towards the Commonwealth Games in the sense that there has been this complain of lack of funds. If those information are true and anything to go by then I am afraid.
“But if that information is not right and the federations are just not doing what they are supposed to do or not having free hands to being properly financed to do so, then again I am entertaining fear.
“Because there is a tripartite collaboration to make any Nigerian level of preparation for international engagement successful.
“That is to say the National Sports Commission, and the Commonwealth Games Association, as the case maybe, which is the NOC as well as the National Sports Federation.”
The 2014 Commonwealth Games will run from July 23 to August 3 in Glasgow. (NAN)[eap_ad_4]
