LAGOS – A 32-year-old driver with the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Giwa Nurudeen, who knocked down a 45-year-old man, was on Monday charged before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Nurudeen, 54, who lives in Iganmu-Orile, is charged with manslaughter and driving without a driver’s licence.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 4 at 7.15 p.m. at Oduade Bus Stop on Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
According to him, the accused hit one Mohammed Sule of No. 28, Alafia St., Amukoko with his BRT bus, who was later confirmed dead.
Inedu alleged that Nurudeen drove the bus with registration no. XR 135 AKD recklessly and without respect for other road users.
He said the accused also drove without a valid driver’s licence.
The offences contravened the Road Traffic Act, Lagos State, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Adeyemi Amos, admitted the accused to a bail of N50, 000 in addition to one surety in like sum.
He said the accused should also show an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.
Amos adjourned further hearing in the case until May 22. (NAN)
