Lagos BRT driver charged with knocking down man

– A 32-year-old driver the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Giwa Nurudeen, who knocked down a 45-year-old man, on charged before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, .

Nurudeen, 54, who lives in Iganmu-Orile, is charged manslaughter and driving without a driver’s licence.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Inedu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 4 at 7.15 p.m. at Oduade Bus Stop on Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

According to him, the accused hit Mohammed Sule of . 28, Alafia St., Amukoko his BRT bus, who later confirmed dead.

Inedu alleged that Nurudeen drove the bus with registration . XR 135 AKD recklessly and without respect for other users.

He said the accused also drove without a valid driver’s licence.

The offences contravened the Traffic Act, , 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr Adeyemi Amos, admitted the accused to a of N50, 000 in addition to surety in like sum.

He said the accused also show an evidence of tax payment to the as part of the conditions.

Amos adjourned further hearing in the case until May 22. (NAN)
