Lagos – An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Wednesday sentenced a 21-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, to five months imprisonment for stealing a Bajaj Motorcycle valued at N80,000 belonging to one Monsuru Oseni.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.R. Onilogbo, handed down the sentence following a plea of guilty by Musa.
“Based on the facts of this case, confirmed report and the plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to five months imprisonment without an option of fine.
“You are also to pay N15,000 to Lagos State Judiciary account,” she ruled.
Musa, a commercial motorcycle rider, lives at Bamaka area of Abesan Housing Estate, Ipaja, Lagos.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Samuel Ishola, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 7 at about 2:00pm at Abesan, Ipaja, Lagos.
Ishola said the accused with one Haruma Umoru, his partner, came to the complainant to price his fairly used motorcycle which he put up for sale.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“The duo after pricing the motorcycle at N80,000 later told the complainant that they wanted to test ride it.
“One of the accused, Musa, while pretending to test rides the motorcycle absconded with it.
“Umoru was apprehended and taken to the station. During the police investigation, it was discovered that Umoru does not know Musa personally they just met at a joint were they usually eat together.
“Musa was later arrested and interrogated by the police,” Ishola said.
He said the accused contravened Sections 285 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
