LAGOS – A 30-year old man, Riliwan Adewusi, was on Friday arraigned before a Shomolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly collecting N650,000 from one Mariam Oduntan with a promise of healing her spiritually.
Rilwan, who resides at Ogijo area of Ikorodu, a Lagos suburb, is facing two-count charge of obtaining under false pretense and stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, told the court that the accused fraudulently obtained the money from Oduntan at Sabo, Yaba, in Lagos in Oct. 2013. [eap_ad_1] “The accused met the complainant at Yaba, where he presented himself as an Islamic cleric and lured her into believing that she had serious family issues and needed spiritual healing.
“The accused tricked the complainant and collected the sum before the complainant realised she had been defrauded.’’
Akinlabi added that the accused was apprehended after he made an arrangement to meet the complainant at a restaurant.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened provisions of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Rilwan pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to Sept. 10 for trial (NAN)
