LAGOS – The Alabarago Market Association on Saturday urged the Lagos State Government to rehabilitate the adjoining road between the market and the Alaba International Market to enhance economic activities.
Mr Mike Adavize, the Chairman of the market, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the deplorable state of the road had negatively affected trading activities in both markets.
He said that the repair of the road would boost the socioeconomic development of the state, by attracting more entrepreneurs and customers to the market.
“Business transactions that amount to millions of Naira is done daily in the markets, and trading activities have been hindered because of the bad roads.
“The only official road that links both markets through the expressway is very bad; we go through a lot of stress connecting through alternative routes which are farther.
“Presently, we have to take the defunct NEPA Road and the Olojo Road, which is much longer before we connect the markets.
“Some people also go through Tafidi Road; but most traders usually avoid this route because we have to pay a toll of N10, to climb the plank that connects both sides.

“We urge the government to assist by rehabilitating this road for sustainable trading activities in the market,” he said.
Adavize said that the bad road network to the market had made the cost of transporting goods to and from the market expensive.
He added that the situation of the road has made traders to transfer the differentials of transportation cost to the prices of goods sold to the customers.
The chairman urged the government to prioritise the rehabilitation of the road on its agenda, for the development of economic activities in the state. (NAN)
