ABAKALIKI – The wife of the Ebonyi State governor, Mrs Josephine Elechi, has warned the youth not to allow themselves to be used to destabilise the society.
Addressing a youth rally organised by her in Abakaliki on Wednesday, Elechi urged them to shun anti-social behaviours such as cultism and violence, among others.
According to her, the youth constitute about 60 per cent of the electorate in the country and largely determine those who rule the country.
“You should show good examples of leadership by being of good behaviours at home and in school while always obeying your parents and elders.
“You should also take your studies seriously to gain more knowledge about life which will help in checking examination malpractice and other acts affecting our educational system.
“The government is creating platforms for young people to access not loans but grants, as youth development would continue to be given the desired attention.
“The Ebonyi government is doing much in this direction through the training of youths in various vocations and skills including the training of 73 of them at the Songhai Farms, Benin Republic,” she said.
She urged them to imbibe ethical re-orientation to enhance productivity and generally develop the country.
“Youths should lead the vanguard in efforts to make Nigerians change their mindset on the country’s affairs and exhibit characteristics that everyone, including the elders, will emulate,” she said.
A participant at the rally, Mr Ikenna Agba, thanked the governor’s wife for organising the gathering and noted that it would help in propagating the message of societal re-orientation. (NAN)
