N652m Scholarship: Parents of Foreign Students Laud Masari


The Katsina State Governor; Rt. Hon Aminu Bello Masari received appreciation from the forum of parents whose children study in various institutions of higher learning across the globe. This was disclosed during a joint courtesy by the parents and the Katsina State Students at the State House in Katsina.

According to the Chairman of the forum the State government has provided scholarship to the tune of N652 million, broken down as follows: N512 million outstanding payments inherited from the previous government, N26 million as spill over outstanding and returning cases, while $319,000 for medical students in Jordan and Sudan.

He further commended the Governor, for without the effort the children would by now be at home to start afresh.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on higher Education Dr. Usman Ruwan Godiya expressed happiness as the Governor meets both students and parents, he described the moment as his happiest since his emergence at the position. He further stated that when the sponsored students come back to the country, they will make Katsina different. Ruwan Godiya also presented to the Governor some of the trained students who had completed their studies.

The Governor while responding, thanked the parents and the students, he said the payment is the right of the students as they also are citizens of Katsina State as the state resources are used in sponsoring them.

Katsina Media and Publicity correspondents recount that Masari, further call on the parents to try and find out the status of their children more especially those studying abroad, he said with the advent of the Internet, parents can track academic records of children.

On the drug abuse he charged the parents to be vigilant; they should search the bags of their female children, check excesses of late night chats and phone calls as they are mostly used for negative purposes.
