Lagos – Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Yahaya, the Air Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Lagos, says physical fitness is important for officers, especially, those fighting to contain insurgency.
Yahaya said this on Saturday during the 2017 Annual Nigeria Air Force 10km walk and jogging for no fewer than 300 officers and men of NAF from the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to him, the exercise will also foster unity and develop all round physical fitness for officers.
“As military men, it is very important that we are physically fit, particularly now that the country is containing insurgency. We embark on this exercise annually just to keep our personnel in shape.
“We must not also relent in our efforts in ensuring that physical fitness occupies a satisfactory standard in our routine programmes,” he said.
Yahaya said the exercise observed annually was one of the most important events of the Nigeria Air Force.
He congratulated officers over the success of the exercise as no casualty was recorded.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise, which had more than 300 participants, kicked off from the Sam Ethnan Airforce Base.
The exercise saw them passing through the local and international terminals of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and ended at the NAF base where they started, Ikeja.
NAN also reports that prizes were given to officers and men who distinguished themselves in different categories during the exercise.
Present at the occasion were top officers from other security agencies; as well as senior military officers, both serving and retired.
