The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the appointment of German coach Bruno Labbadia as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s Senior Men National Team.
NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, announced early Tuesday that the NFF Executive Committee approved the Technical and Development Sub-Committee’s recommendation to appoint Labbadia, effective immediately.
Born in Darmstadt, Germany, on February 8, 1966, Labbadia enjoyed a successful playing career, winning the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich in 1994. He earned two caps for the German national team and played for clubs including Hamburger SV, FC Kaiserslautern, and Werder Bremen.
As a coach, Labbadia has led teams like Hertha Berlin, VfB Stuttgart, VfL Wolfsburg, and Bayer Leverkusen. He holds a UEFA Pro License and becomes the sixth German to manage the Super Eagles, following in the footsteps of notable names like Berti Vogts and Gernot Rohr.
Labbadia’s first challenge will be guiding the Super Eagles in two crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic on September 7 in Uyo and Rwanda on September 10 in Kigali, with additional qualifiers scheduled for October and November.
