ABUJA – The Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Ima Niboro, has commended the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, for the giant strides recorded in the nation’s health sector.
Niboro made the commendation, when he received the minster in his office on Friday in Abuja.
He said the laudable achievements in the sector under the leadership of the minister, especially the containment of the Ebola Virus Disease (EBD), had attracted commendations from the International community.
“What you have achieved for us is what a thousand diplomats will not achieve. It is what a thousand press releases will not achieve without firing a gun short.
“We urge you to continue with this good work that you are doing,’’ he said.
He noted that the New York Times newspaper in U.S. in its more than 200 years history had something nice to say over Nigeria’s best practices in the health sector for the first time.
He said the minister had made his “brilliance and managerial capacity useful to the society’’.
Niboro noted that President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformational strides had made the country tremendously proud in very many ways.
He said that the minister under the leadership of the president had carried out some many transformative additions in the health sector.
The managing director acknowledged that Chukwu had talked less, but had done more in the transformation agenda of the present administration.
He also averred that the leadership capacity exhibited by the minister in the containment of the EVD was an indication of brilliance and capacity on the part of the minister and the Federal Government.
Niboro He said the minister had made the nation proud by his ingenuity in the health sector.
He said the suppression of the disease had further increased the status of Nigeria and Africa in the world.
Speaking earlier, the minister congratulated Niboro on his appointment.
He said his appointment as the managing director of NAN was based on his good leadership ability.
The minister expressed optimism that Niboro would bring his experience, commitment, energy and skills to bear to deepen the growth of the agency.
He commiserated with the staff and management of the Agency over the demise of Mrs Remi Oyo, the immediate past managing director of the agency.
He also extolled the leadership ability of the deceased, saying she would be greatly missed by all.
“I have had the privilege of having known her while she was the Chief Executive of NAN. [eap_ad_1] “I was always very proud of her in terms of her managerial ability, in terms of her enthusiasm for the work and in terms of making NAN to really function; one naturally feel sad at her demise.
Chukwu said he was also in the agency to consolidate the existing working relationship between the ministry and NAN.
He said he would continue to use the machinery of the agency to disseminate information to Nigerians and the world on the programmes of the ministry.
He commended the agency for its correct, balanced and accurate reportage of news.
“Let me commend the News Agency of Nigeria, it is one agency I am proud of.
“NAN is doing extremely well; NAN is the pride of Nigerians today.
“The way they are able to collate information, and syndicate this information, is so wonderful and is respected all over the world today,’’ Chukwu said.
While urging the agency to consider the ministry as a significant partner, he promised to sustain and strengthen the synergy. (NAN)
