The Nigerian Army has apprehended a 25-year-old woman, Shamsiyya Ahadu, suspected of supplying arms and ammunition to infamous terrorist leader Bello Turji.
The arrest, which occurred on December 28, was confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, in a statement on Sunday, December 29.
Ahadu, along with her accomplice Ahmed Husaini, a motorcyclist, was captured in the Badarawa area of Shinkafi Local Government Area in Zamfara State. According to Abdullahi, troops recovered 764 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and six magazines allegedly intended for delivery to Turji’s camp.
Tactical Operation
The operation was executed by troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, under Operation Hadarin Daji (Fansan Yamma). It was based on actionable intelligence regarding the movement of terrorist logistics between the Kware and Badarawa communities.
“The suspects are currently under investigation,” Abdullahi stated, emphasizing that the operation demonstrates the army’s ongoing commitment to dismantling the logistics networks of terrorist groups operating in Zamfara and neighboring states.
Turji’s Threats
Bello Turji, a notorious terrorist leader, is known for orchestrating violent attacks across the region. In recent weeks, Turji has reportedly threatened reprisals after the arrests of individuals he claims are innocent community members, describing them as victims of false accusations.
Appeal for Public Cooperation
The Nigerian Army thanked the public for their ongoing support and called for continued cooperation in providing credible intelligence to aid counter-terrorism efforts. “The collaboration of citizens is crucial in eliminating terrorist activities and restoring peace to the affected regions,” Abdullahi added.
The military remains steadfast in its mission to address insecurity in the Northwest, with hopes that such targeted operations will disrupt terrorist operations and reduce their capacity to carry out attacks.
