Doha – The Nigerian community under the aegis of Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation (NIDO-Qatar), has cautioned fellow countrymen against use of fake recruitment agents for prospecting for jobs in Qatar, an official of the organisation says.
“Where you do not have a job, you do not have business being here in Qatar,’’ President of NIDO, Amadi Nwokocha told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent in the Qatar.
“Many Nigerians have fallen victims of fraudsters who swindle them by offering fake job opportunities in unknown and sometimes non-existing companies, only to be stranded here,’’ he said.
Nwokocha said that NIDO-Qatar had developed an interactive website, through which Nigerians would communicate and be of assistance other Nigerian Nationals, who could be in need of information to make the right decisions.
He gave the address of the website as www.NIDOQatar.org.
The NIDO-Qatar president said it was unfortunate that at the moment, the organisation is working toward overcoming an image problem, which was a result of past suspicious activities that a few dishonest Nigerians had perpetrated in the past.
Nwokocha said the organisation had been undertaking an awareness creation strategy, so that NIDOs objectives could be clearly understood.
“We are also trying to improve communication with the Nigerian Mission, so that we can have improved consular services, including renewal of passports and events that could help Nigerians to improve their welfare within their host country.

According to him, of the 7,500 Nigerians estimated to be in Qatar, 2,000 of them have since registered with the body.
“We are still wooing others to affiliate, so that they could talk with common voice in seeking the welfare of our fellow countrymen out here. When our hosts find that we are organised, they are about to listen to some of the challenges facing us as a body.
Nwokocha said at the moment, some Nigerian professionals in Qatar, find it difficult to get their spouses to join them because of some stringent emigration policies, stressing that this had been posing problems to families.
He said that the organisation had launched an Identity card project, to enable Nigerians resident in the country to document themselves
The NIDO-Qatar president said that at the moment, they had been enjoying the healthy cooperation with the Nigerian Mission, stressing that they had made a proposal on how best the Embassy could be of assistance to them.
The organisation was formed by a group of eminent Nigerians in 2002 as a social, non-religious and non-political forum where members can mingle, get-together as well as provide support to one another. (NAN)
