Lagos – The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Thursday threw its weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption drive.
The party’s Director of Strategy and Research, Mr Dipo Olayoku, told newsmen in Lagos that they supported the Buhari administration’s move to end the vicious circle of corruption in Nigeria.
“We welcome every move by President Buhari to restore Nigeria to the path of greatness.
“For this reason, our party, the NNPP, will support every legitimate move to put an end to this vicious circle of corruption, and also recover, if possible, all monies stolen from Nigeria.
“What we are saying in essence is that the major focus of any war against corruption must be recovery of all looted funds.
“It is of no benefit if a corrupt official is sent to jail without the looted money being returned to Nigerians,” he said.
Olayoku lauded the federal government on the Treasury Single Account initiative, describing it as a policy that was in line with Section 162(1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
“If the government is able to harness all the revenues being generated by its agencies, the prevailing dwindling oil revenue will not have any impact on government revenue at all,” he said.
The party official said it was time for opposition parties to look beyond partisan politics and support moves that would move the country forward.
“Opposition must be credible and constructive. If we must oppose government initiatives and programmes for the purpose of opposition, we may then be getting it wrong.
“ In other words, politics and election may have divided us in the past, let us now work together and build a greater Nigeria.

“The next election is coming up in 2019, and as such, let us tarry a while and utilise the time frame for the growth and development of our country,” he said. (NAN)
