ABUJA – The Director-General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Mike Omeri, on Thursday, canvassed for the withdrawal of academic certificates of proven corrupt public and private sector leaders.
The call is contained in a statement signed by Mr Paul Odenyi, the Agency’s Chief Press Secretary, made available in Abuja.
The statement quoted Omeri as saying that the certificate withdrawal would serve as deterrent to others and would help in building a corrupt-free society.
“It is time for us as a nation to look inward and find stiffer penalties to discourage leaders from acts of corruption,” he said.
The director general stressed the need for relevant and effective measures to rid the country of corruption.[eap_ad_2]
Omeri congratulated the new Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja, Prof. Michael Adikwu, and urged him to seize the opportunity of the Agency’s programme on value orientation.
He called for collaboration between the Agency and the university toward sustaining the Agency’s programme: “Do the Right Thing: Patriotism and Ethics First.”
He added that the university’s Institute for Peace and Democratic Studies should provide a platform for mutually beneficial partnership beween the two.
“It is unfortunate that we don’t see problems as opportunities; our youths today are very restive.
“We can jointly collaborate to train and inculcate new values in them,’’ he said. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
