By Chibuike Nwabuko
Abuja (Sundiata Post) – A group under the auspices of Ndigbo Lagos has charged Ndi-Imo to turn out enmasse to cast their votes without let or hindrance on the 11th of November, 2023.
This is coming as the group has appealed to all politicians, political parties, and candidates to shun all forms of violence and focus on issue-based campaigns while avoiding resort to divisive tactics
The group in a letter signed by its President General and Secretary General, Major General Obi Abel Umahi(rtd) and Chief Chuma Igwe respectively, reminded that the election of 11th November gives Ndi-Imo the constitutional opportunity to choose its governor from the the array of qualified candidates on the ballot.
The statement reads in full:
TOWARDS PEACEFUL AND CREDIBLE ELECTIONS IN IMO STATE COME 11TH NOVEMBER 2023
Dear Ndi Imo,
Ndigbo Lagos makes this press release in our capacity as the frontline leadership body focused on promoting unity, supporting progress, steering positive change and development et cetera, among the Igbo communities in Lagos and beyond.
Based on the aforementioned affirmations we believe it behoves on Ndigbo Lagos to strongly emphasise the importance of peace and security in Imo State before, during and after the Governorship Election coming up on 11th November 2023. Ndigbo Lagos encourages all its members and supporters to reach out to their kits and kins in Imo State to espouse the values Ndigbo as a nation upholds in responsible and participatory civic citizenship based on integrity and rule of law.
Imo State occupies a significant position of pride in the South-East Region. It is known for its industry, high literacy rate, exposure, vibrant culture and political awareness. However, the past few years have been most challenging for the State, and painful for the citizens due to insecurity and consequential effects on its economy. This forthcoming election should not impact negatively on the already sad situation.
The election of 11th November gives Ndi-Imo the constitutional opportunity to choose its governor from the the array of qualified candidates on the ballot. Ndigbo Lagos is therefore utilising this medium to charge Ndi-Imo to turn out enmasse to cast their votes without let or hindrance, while we urge INEC to live up to its responsibilities.
We are also appealing to all politicians, political parties, and candidates to shun all forms of violence and focus on issue-based campaigns while avoiding resort to divisive tactics. Finally, we implore all law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order and avoid any act of commission or omission that will border on partisanship or any form of unprofessional conduct.
We thank all the dramatis personae in advance for your anticipated honorable roles in the conduct of fair, credible and transparent election in the interest of our fledgling democracy, peace of Imo State, South-East and Nigeria as a whole. Thank you for your continuous support and unwavering commitment to the betterment of the Igbo nation.
Yours faithfully,
Major General Obi Abel Umahi(rtd) OFR
President General
Chief Chuma Igwe Secretary General.
