ABUJA – The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday commiserated with the family of its former President, Mr Ndagene Akwu, who died on Friday.
In a statement in Abuja, the NUJ National Secretary, Mr Shuaibu Leman, said that the union regretted the passing away of Akwu, who served it in various capacities.
It said Akwu was Chairman of the Rivers Council of NUJ from 1998 to 2002.
The statement said: “One of the remarkable achievements that will remain indelible was the inauguration of Federation of African Journalists in 2007 in Abuja.’’
I said: “As we commiserate with the family of the departed colleague, we also pray to Almighty God to grant him eternal rest.’’
Born on April 1, 1959 in Ogbakiri, Rivers State, Ndagene studied English at University of Port Harcourt and University of Calabar. (NAN)
