OWERRI – The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo Council, said it planned to organise political debate for candidates of all political parties as they emerged from various party primaries.
The Chairman of the council, Mr Innocent Igwe, swaid this in a statement on Thursday in Owerri.
He said the debate was part of the union’s social responsibility to the society.
The chairman added that the move would enable all the candidates and political parties to showcase their manifestoes to the electorate, have equal opportunity and equitable space for electioneering.
Igwe said the debate would also offer a unique interface for the Imo people to familiarise with those aspiring to lead them at various levels. [eap_ad_2] He said that the debate would be broadcast live on all radio and television stations in the state and some major national and international broadcast networks, in line with modern trends.
“Imo people in any part of the world will also be able to interact with the candidates in the course of the debate via telephone and online media in an all stakeholders’ inclusive strategy,” he said.
Igwe said the council would welcome the support and contribution of any organisation, group or agency interested in playing any role to actualise the success of the debate.
The chairman solicited the cooperation of all political parties, religious bodies and other stakeholders for the realisation of the aims and objectives of the programme.(NAN)[eap_ad_3]
