Abuja – The Osun State team on Wednesday beat their Kano state counterparts 3-1 to qualify for the final of the football competition of the 2017 NYSC Sports and Cultural Festival.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the victory was in one of the competition’s semi-final matches, played at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.
Ariyo Abdullahi opened scoring in the 15th minute of the first half with a well-placed shot in the penalty area.
In the 53rd minute, he added another goal with a brilliant header, after Abdullahi Musa’s assist.
Musa secured their win in the 80th minute with a goal, while Frank Fabio pulled one back for Kano State.
Head Coach of Osun, Owolabi Abubakar, told NAN it was a fantastic match for them and he felt good to know that his team would play in the final match.
“It was a fantastic match and a fantastic performance for both teams. But I am very grateful to God for my team’s performance and indeed we will do much better in the final,’’ he said.
In the other semi-final match, Kaduna State beat Ekiti State 1-0.
NAN reports that the third-place match will be played on Thursday, while the final match will come up on Friday.
