Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Fuji musician Okunola Saheed, widely known as Osupa, has decided to drop the legal case he filed against the controversial artist Badmus Okikiola, better known as Portable.
Osupa’s attorney, Ahmed Opalekunde, confirmed the decision to The PUNCH Online on Tuesday, announcing that a formal withdrawal notice had been submitted to the Upper Area Court 1 of the High Court in Ilorin.
This development followed the summoning of Portable to court on Monday by the Kwara State Police Command, after Osupa filed a formal complaint against the singer.
In his complaint, Osupa accused Portable of committing criminal defamation, intimidation, incitement of public unrest, and cyberstalking.
The charges were said to be in violation of various sections of the law, including Section 392 (criminal defamation), Section 114 (inciting disturbance), and Section 397 (criminal intimidation) of the Penal Code. Additionally, they fell under Sections 24(1)(b) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015, as well as Sections 10 and 13 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2020.
On Tuesday, Osupa’s lawyer disclosed to The PUNCH that his client had decided to withdraw the case after several influential figures from the music industry and other key stakeholders intervened. As a result, Osupa chose to resolve the dispute through an out-of-court settlement.
The withdrawal notice also included a stern warning for Portable to stop any further public statements or actions that could harm Osupa’s reputation.
The letter stated, “Our client has been urged by various stakeholders and respected individuals to withdraw the case for the sake of public peace. In light of this, we respectfully request the court to acknowledge the withdrawal of the case and advise the defendant to cease any future defamatory comments or actions that target our client’s person or business.”
Among other accusations, Osupa claimed that Portable had used a live stream to make disparaging remarks about him. He also alleged that Portable had wrongly stated that Osupa had removed his music from streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, actions that could have negatively impacted his reputation and earnings.
The petition highlighted an Instagram live broadcast by Portable on March 19, 2025, during which the singer allegedly accused Osupa of jealousy and attempting to sabotage his career.
In the video, Portable was heard saying, “This man dey try to bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa na tortoise. When Apple Music and Spotify wan drop money for me, na him remove my song from platform make I no see money.”
Osupa responded by describing the remarks as damaging and provocative, insisting that they sparked public unrest and damaged his image.
On Monday, Chief Magistrate Sunday Adeniyi granted Portable bail of N1 million, with two sureties. One surety must be the chairman of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, and the other must own property in the Government Reserved Area within the court’s jurisdiction.
