Courtesy of the constituted authority of Oyo State, Oyo has scored another first in the annals of history in the world. Some Ibadan chiefs have just been promoted as obas in Ibadan. Yes, they are chiefs and they are also Obas. Interesting, isn’t it?
We were told that two kings can not rule in the same kingdom. That was before. Thanks to the benevolent chief executive, we now have not 2, not 3, but 22 kings in Ibadanland- Olubadan and the 21 new obas! Isn’t that pacesetting?
In Yorubaland, we used to have traditional and honorary chiefs, but not honorary obas. Now, we have traditional oba as well as honorary obas in Ibadanland. Ajisebioyo!
When an Olubadan goes homes, a chief (either Otun Olubadan or Balogun) becomes the next Olubadan. That has changed! Henceforth an Oba is promoted to the olubadan throne. So, oba now get promotion. Beautiful, isn’t it?
And BTW, since these news obas are also Olubadan chiefs, how will they greet Olubadan when they meet? Prostrate? No, obas don’t prostrate (for another oba). Shake him? No they are still Olubadan chiefs. They can not shake him.
So, how will they manage that situation?
Yi o mo leyin, yi o mo leyin
Oro yi, yio mo leyin
