Lagos – Christian Paul, ranked 880 by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), on Saturday said he hoped to progress to the final of the Governor’s Cup holding at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Court, Onikan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Governor’s Cup is holding from Dec. 5 to Dec. 17.
Paul told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the Governor’s Cup was a tough competition, but he was optimistic of getting to the final.
“The Governor’s Cup is a tough one; not that I am scared of any player, but the competitive level is very high. I hope to make it to the final,” he said.
The tennis player said he would do his best to ensure he moved up the rankings of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and ITF.

“People should expect more from me in 2016 because I hope to improve my ranking, work more on myself,” he said.
Paul appealed to corporate organisations to sponsor the sport, noting that engaging in competitions help to define a player.
“’It is through competitions that a player knows where he or she is missing it, where there can be correction. So, we need more sponsors to come to our aid,” he said. (NAN)
