ABUJA – In what is seen as victory for the now opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), two-term governor of Kwara State and ranking senator, Bukola Saraki, has emerged the new Senate President. He was the sole candidate.
Saraki, though a member of the now ruling All Peoples Congress (APC), was candidate of PDP for the position of Senate President. The PDP had issued a statement on Monday directing it’s members in the Senate to vote for Saraki. PDP has 45 senators in the 109-member upper chamber.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu, a PDP senator from Enugu State, retained his position as deputy senate president.
